Christian's Big Boy Bed

I took a gamble and decided yesterday to take down the crib and put up the toddler bed for big boy. I thought, what am I getting myself into...but ( thank the Lord) Christian did really great last night sleeping in his bed for the first time. I think it helped that he couldn't sucker Mommy into giving in because he's just a muffin... anyway, Mitch kept walking by, saying " lay down" and he'd lay his little head down, he whined a little, but it went so well. I was pleasantly surprised... nap time may be a different story today so we shall see. Oh also I had him weight checked when he turned 22 months and he was 21 lbs and 31 inches long. He's still right under the curve on his own little Christian curve. (please ignore the chipped paint on the wall from where his rocking chair was) :)

Abominable Snow Amounts

Mara requested a picture of this wonderous feast of snow. Our city has had 54.8 inches of snow this winter season. It's ridiculous...if you look at the end left of our drive you can see our mailbox peeking out if that gives you an idea.

Kids Say the Cutest Things

The kids have been healthy for a week or so now YEA! Here are some cute random sayings the children have said (cute to me anyway) recently. Isabelle praying for her tea party " Thank you God for this food, and for... saving my people, in Jesus name I pray Amen" I thought she sounded like a Hebrew lol. Also when she doesn't want me to leave her room at night, "but Mommy I LOVE you!" Christian says things like " Chalk, I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!" " Milk, milk, GET IT!!!!" " Mommy, hold me." " Good catch!" " Mine , all mine" Well they make us laugh anyway. They've also enjoyed dancing together, holding hands, turning circles to my Taylor Swift cd.
The pic is from one year ago Valentine's Day.

If It's Important To You

Due to gaping loopholes in federal law, companies can put virtually any ingredient into personal care products. Even worse, the government does not require pre-market safety tests for any of them.
This is unacceptable. Sign Environmental Working Group's petition to Congress to turn this around and make personal care products safe.
Dear Member of Congress,I support the Environmental Working Group's efforts to protect the public from unsafe chemicals in personal care products. The Congress must require manufacturers to prove the safety of their products before they are allowed to sell them. I strongly believe that:
All chemicals used in cosmetics and personal care products must pass a strict safety test that protects the most vulnerable in the population, before products are allowed to be sold.
Cosmetics companies must disclose all ingredients, with no exceptions for fragrances or other industry "trade secrets."
The government must prohibit the use of the most toxic ingredients in products intended specifically for children. I fully endorse Environmental Working Group's efforts to ensure that personal care products are fully assessed for safety before they are allowed on the market.

Itching For One More Sickness

Last night I noticed Isabelle had spots all over her arm, round, slightly raised, different sizes... they are sprinkled throughout her body, none on her face and yesterday morning she said, I'm itchy and scratched near her collar bone then that night she had a little blister there. The blister made me think, chickenpox?? I was all over the internet for pics etc; No more blisters this morning. I called the dr's office AGAIN. It's pretty bad when they answer and I can just tell by the voice which receptionist I'm talking to. I really do think they know exactly who we are when I tell them our name, it's ridiculous!! Anyway I decided to wait it out till Friday if it doesn't get better and have her looked at when CHristian gets his ear checked on the way to Linda's. Assuming the rash improves and our anniversary weekend is still a go. I swear sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane is God's sovereignty. My friend Katie's little boy once had a similar sounding rash due to too many fruit snacks with red dye and Isabelle did have two packs yesterday which she normally doesn't have. Any imput is welcome!
2009 update: I believe this was a mild case of chicken pox. She had one blister on her shoulder and she still has a scar from it just like a chicken pock scar.

On My Chemical Free Soapbox

Fox News came out with a report about chemicals being in baby products, on my quest for chemical free makeup and stumbling across Safe Cosmetics.org. I already knew about Phthalates. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,328007,00.html I'm just passing on info to anyone who cares that we do in fact absorb chemicals through our skin and so do our children. The FDA has no regulations on what junk is put in our beauty products. I have the link listed to the cosmetic database that shows tons of info on brands, products and ingredients and what they rate as a potential hazard risk. It's extensive but if you wonder if what you're putting on yourself or your baby is safe, you can look up specific products and they give you details. They also have lists of companies and products that are low or no hazard.
For the heck of it I'm also giving the link to some info about tea tree oil. I got some last year for foot fungus and it has many uses. Just a random tidbit for you. :) Hey I figure if this helps one person it's worth my soapboxing. http://www.socal.com/artman/publish/printer_450.shtml

A New Week Begins

Well our family is finally starting to get healthy since all the sickness started Jan 15th. We had to take Christian to the dr last Tuesday since he was acting just miserable and running 102.9 degree fever with tylonol. He ended up having his first ear infection. This is the first time either kid has been on antibiotics. We knew this day was coming! He is doing much better now. I'll put a couple pics up of what I found when they came running out of my bedroom the other day.

Mitch and I are so excited for this weekend! It's our 7th anniversary on the 9th and the kids are going to be at Grandma Linda's. It will be nice to focus on each other for a change!
